We are thrilled to welcome childrens’ specialist Sara Milov, implementing the BrainDance teaching method at InMotion.

We are proud to be the first West Puget Sound location to offer the BrainDance Method with instructors who have extensively studied and taught BrainDance. Our commitment to providing only the best curriculum begins with our Children’s Program. We are hopeful you will allow us to share this opportunity with your family.

Mommy & Me Class: Ages 2-5

Come and have fun exploring movement with your child! Discover how exciting learning can be by using the ideas of the BrainDance (Anne Green Gilbert), combined with a wide variety of music, props, and instruments. Caregivers and nannies welcome. Siblings (6months and older) may attend for a discount. Classes offered through Poulsbo Parks & Rec as Dance with Me Class.

Creative Movement 1 – Ages: 3 -4yrs

Creative Movement 2 – Ages: 4 -5yrs

This class will focus on encouraging the children to explore movement and concepts (such as space, levels, speed, and weight), as well as develop coordination, flexibility, stamina, and rhythm while dancing along with props (like scarves and ribbons) and listening to various musical selections. It is a fun and creative way to experience dance in the early years! Ages: 3 -5yrs.

Ballet Basics

(By teacher placement only and usually Kindergarten age range) This class is designed as a transition from Creative Movement, and provides an introduction to the fundamentals of beginning ballet technique and terminology. The students will develop coordination, strength, flexibility, stamina and musicality; as well as build self-esteem in a positive environment. We will explore a weekly movement concept (such as space, levels, and speed), and incorporate the BrainDance exercises into the class, as well as include basic barre work, and center work.

Intro Tumbling – children 3-6 yrs old

This class is designed to introduce young kids to the basics of tumbling. It helps them work through feelings of dizziness and disorientation which in turn improves their coordination and awareness. It also helps to increase flexibility, especially in the back, which is vital at this age to allow for continued flexibility in the future. Students learn various skills based on individual capabilities.

Intro to Tap/Jazz – children 5-6 yrs old

(younger, by teacher placement) This class is designed to introduce our little dancers to the world of Tap and Jazz. Class includes both styles. Tap is beneficial to young dancers because it allows them to continue their learning by connecting their movements to sound. Jazz is an upbeat class with fun dance moves and introductory steps to lead to a successful Beginning Jazz Class. This class requires more independence and listening ability than a Creative Movement Class but is extremely beneficial to your dancer’s learning experience.

Please do not approach teachers before/after classes as they are busy preparing for their next class which makes them unavailable for a “quick” conversation.  Please check in with the office and we will get all info to the Instructors and /or schedule time to meet so we are able to have a complete conversation and the Instructors are prepared to answer your questions. We always encourage dancers to communicate with their Instructors, however we ask that it be done at an appropriate time that does not disrupt classes and is respectful of the Instructors time.

The BrainDance Method Developed by Anne Green Gilbert, the BrainDance is a series of exercises that we use in all InMotion classes. It is comprised of eight fundamental movement patterns that we move through in the first year of life. Research has shown that these patterns are crucial to the wiring of our central nervous system. As babies, we did these movements on our tummies on the floor. However, cycling through these patterns sitting or standing has been found to be beneficial. This “dance” is an excellent full body and brain warm-up for children and adults in all settings. The BrainDance can be done at the beginning of class; before tests, performances, and presentations; and during computer work and TV watching for brain reorganization, oxygenation, and recuperation. The benefits for children and adults in cycling through these patterns include: Reorganization of the neurological system: The fundamental movement patterns wire the central nervous system laying the foundation for sensory-motor development and life long learning. Cycling through these patterns on a daily basis may correct flaws in a person’s perceptual process and reorganize the central nervous system so to develop better proprioception, balance, attention, memory, eye-tracking, behavior, sensory integration, and motor skills. Increased blood and oxygen flow to the respiratory system and brain: The brain consumes one-fifth of the body’s oxygen. Deep breathing is essential for a fully functioning body and brain. All movements and rhythms are based on breath. Enhanced core support, connectivity, and alignment: Becoming aware of the visceral and muscular systems that support the body leads to correct use of body structures and helps children and adults to be injury-free and move with ease and coordination. Each pattern underlies and supports the next pattern and when done in succession brings connectivity to our use of the body, reflecting an integration of body and mind.
